script reflection - individual work

legal and ethical grid:

Constraints

Strengths, skills and assists

Weakness, concerns and liabilities

Action points – skills, logistics, changes to Ideas.

Legal and ethical considerations, e.g., privacy, libel law, data protection, freedom of information.

The strengths that our characters aren’t based on real people and are fictional people is a skill that we build or assists on and be able to develop a stronger storyline

An issue we may have is the filming that we have done outside this would regard permission for public people walking by, in case they get into the shot.

When filming in the forest we need to ensure that we have no public members in our shots and if taken asked for permission.

Codes Of Practice

The forest is a public area and can be used by any one, this is a benefit towards us as we will not be having to ask for permission.

A weakness we may have is we do not want anyone in any danger in public and safety applies.

No public members around when production is being filmed e.g.: bikers in the forest.

Copyright – requirements, owners clearance cost

All music has been copy right free and all music used will be copyright free with a pasted link.

Weakness would be finding it difficult to find copyright free music.

Spending time researching and finding copy right free music websites or copyright free music to add to the production.

Post production techniques- Annoted screenshots

Sound Editing:
  • Adding music
One technique that we used was adding in background music and sound effects. This was done by converting the youtube link to all the audios used and converting them into mp3 files. This helped emphasise certain scenes to make them more intense.
  • Fading audio
Another technique we used was fading out some audio files used, in order to highlight the transition to another scene; or to effectively switch to another soundtrack, without any awkward pausing.
  • Adding in sounds that were suggested from the sound effects board
This technique used is adding sounds that came from the sound effects board. The sounds were converted into mp3 files; before being imported into Final Cut Pro; where they were added into the background of a few scenes. An example with this video to a song we used was applied to a scene in order to make it more playful and authentic to Turkish culture.

Video Editing:

  • Changing the lighting for certain scenes
One technique we've done was put a filter effect over certain scenes (specifically the last couple scenes of the film). This allows the audience to know that there is a tense atmosphere.
  • Transitioning the scenes into black
This technique is when we need to switch to a new fresh scene in the opening sequence. We used a black overlay and used it as a way to create a suspenseful pause before diverting to another scene.

Graphics/Text Editing:

  • Adding in the title and production credits of "The Black candle"
This technique is used by choosing from a series of fonts given by Final Cut Pro. We decided to use this type of text which animates by each of the letters fading in and flickering; in order to give a creepy, eerie tone to the audience.
  • Green screen of the orb

Another big technique we used was adding a green screen video of the orb. As the orb helps carry the storyline, we added a green screen above the characters, and altered its original colour to fit the colour palette for the "Black Candles".

Risk assessment

Hazard:

Actors can get harmed in the process as they are in a public forest area with twigs and trees are around. if there was rain before Hand, there would be mud and a slipping hazard also.

There are also risk in equipment, we are in a open space where if it rains we will all get wet an date camera will get damaged and stop working. this not only will cost us to pay a fine but would delay our project.

Risk rating:

the risk rating is high considering that the public, society and the weather is unpredictable. Additionally, there is also animals seen as there is a resort and plus ducks and swans next to the river.

The camera equipment has a medium risk but if taken place would cause a high risk seen as the outcome and consequences.

Control:

Keeping the scenes limited in being outside, going to the location at a earlier time or with adults to ensure safety.

keeping the camera under shelter or with protection. this leads to checking the weather forecast nd seeing if there is or isn't a possibility for rain to ruin the cameras.

Evidence of applying filters, transitions and effects to enhance meaning:

In the beginning, we have used 3D font to allow us to introduce each character to the audience one by one.

This section shows how the background music gets turned down while merging it into the second background sound.

This scene is transitioned from when the girls where running through the forest, this transition is emphasised by the background music as it fades out into a more mysterious and intense soundtrack.

This is a still shot and emphasises what role YK has to play. We had to screen shot the scene and add it in as a picture

In this entire scene we have added flickering effect by adding a series of short, repetitive black overlaying.

Here we had added a green screen to help us create a supernatural element to grand ending. The orb is representing what the whole storyline is about.

My section of the storyboard

We had to re-organise the scenes, therefore the story board is not in the correct order. I shall list the number scenes to show which clip is allocated to me.
